The purpose of installing EEP shielding systems is to:

  • Create a benign electrical environment to protect today's ever more sensitive equipment from electrical or magnetic interference
  • Ensure compliance with electromagnetic compatibility standards
  • Provide a safe working environment against radiological or magnetic field risks

As a natural extension of our MRI shielding work, EEP undertakes the technically challenging work of designing and installing the associated safety emergency quench pipe system.

A total service provider

We supply prime contractors and end users alike – both in the UK and overseas. Our scope of supply is broad, ranging from the provision of a single shielded door up to a turnkey installation or an integrated package – see 'Integrated Solutions.'

This is of particular benefit to large contractors. With all operations centred at one location, the logistics of coordinating and consolidating the work becomes much simplified. We are therefore ideally positioned to amalgamate all individual EEP specialist elements into a common package.

Healthcare projects, particularly our installations for large National Health Service Hospitals, demonstrate the usefulness of this approach as they involve:

  • MRI rooms – complete installation, [the RF Faraday cage, helium quench pipe, magnetic field shielding and fully fitted-out interiors, medical gasses, EEP dimming LED lights, power, data lines etc.]
  • Medical Imaging suites - PET & PET/CT scanner radiation shielding installations
  • Quench pipe system – complete from the MRI scanner to the external vent
  • Radiotherapy treatment facilities – radiation shielding installations including linear accelerator (linac) bunkers

These major installations comprised of 3 MRI rooms, 6 Helium quench pipe systems – up to 500mm and 4 magnetic field shields, plus 650m2 lead radiation shielded walls, 12 radiation doors and ceiling mounted and load bearing grids.

This installation comprised 7000m2 of wall & roof shielding, a continuous 75m2 window, with an integral fine mesh shielding screen sandwiched within and a 7,700m copper braid zero reference ground plane lattice network, incorporating 3300 braid interconnections and 6220 cable terminations.
