Shielded Doors These are a most critical component of any shielding installation. At EEP we design and build a variety of types - hinged or sliding; manual or power operated.
Part of our design philosophy is to reduce maintenance requirements to a minimum and for RF doors, to ensure the shielding performance will be sustained during the lifetime of the door – of particular relevance for busy MRI Rooms. To ensure we deliver consistently high performing doors, EEP custom designs and builds doors for each application – whether an RF, radiation or EMP1 risk.
1 Also available are blast proof and gastight types doors for CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear, enhanced) type situations
Doors are supplied with the appropriate interlocks, manual latching (standard) and micro-switch for connection to ‘power off’ circuits. Apart from our specialist doors, we also provide conventional ‘Code’ lead lined doors when required.

Our standard radiation leaf door sets can accommodate up to 50mm of lead but our sliding doors can well exceed that. With the weights that can be involved, the frame assembly is as critical as the door design itself. As standard, EEP doors come as a complete fitted door and frame set and can be fully power operated to achieve smooth controlled movement. Where called for, lead glass vision panels and privacy vision screens are fitted. Security can also be important and our doors comply with UK security standards but alternative specifications can be considered.

At EEP we pay particular attention to appearance and our new door designs are aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. This has relevance for hospitals both from the perspective of the patient as well as for architectural reasons and the new range is available with an appropriate paint or laminate finish to match the decorative style of the door’s location.

Ferrous metal detection
Within the MRI room there is the specific danger of inadvertently introducing items containing ferromagnetic material. This brings about a real possibility that the object will accelerate suddenly towards the magnet and with such force that it will literally fly.
As a provider of MRI Rooms, we can install wall mounted ferrous metal detection systems such as the Metrasens ‘Ferroguard’ at the portal through which everything must enter and exit the room.
